Located in Vail Village the J. Cotter Gallery is looking for a diversely talented individual to work in our gallery.
Jim Cotter, owner, and artist celebrated his 50th year operating the gallery and studio in the Vail Valley. The J. Cotter team consistently strives for excellence and works towards maintaining a community environment. We are a family run business and operate as such.

We are looking for someone that is highly motivated, with great interpersonal and communication skills. Understanding the value and importance of client relationships is crucial. Someone who is self-motivated and willing to follow instructions. Interest in the fashion and art worlds are a must. This role will be multifaceted.

Responsibilities included but are not limited to:
- Sales
- Communicating with clients (in person, as well as by phone and email)
- Working with the gallery’s creative director
- Administrative tasks
- Day to day operations of the gallery
- Merchandising

Knowledge of techniques used in jewelry making and basic knowledge of gemstones is preferred. We would also like the potential employee to be proficient in Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Lightspeed.

2021 Summer Internship

J. Cotter Gallery in Vail, Colorado is seeking a Summer Intern for its Minturn studio. The studio provides support for the gallery and operates as the workspace for Jim Cotter’s work.

We are looking for a candidate with entry-level bench/metalwork skills, problem-solving capabilities, good communication skills, strong organizational skills, and must be proficient in basic computer skills. Experience with content creation and E-commerce is a plus.

The program will be flexible with opportunities to learn and explore different aspects of the trade depending on the individual's interests. These areas could include wax carving, metal fabrication, stone setting, sculptural work, gallery sales, or social media marketing. The intern will also be assisting with casting, finishing jewelry, polishing, and daily studio operations.

You will be working closely with artist Jim Cotter, and his studio manager in learning how to make jewelry and other sculpture from start to finish as well as what goes into maintaining a studio.

J. Cotter Gallery has been located in the Vail Valley since 1970. The gallery primarily features Cotter’s work but is accompanied by various other contemporary jewelers and artists. J. Cotter Studio designs and builds Jim Cotter’s jewelry and artwork using a range of techniques with a focus on lost wax casting using a centrifugal casting machine.

The Vail Valley is an outdoor paradise with endless opportunities for hiking, cycling, rafting, fishing, camping, and many other adventure activities. Housing may be provided to the right candidate. The length of the internship is flexible but should be expected to run from late May through early August.
